Charges are pending against the 80-year-old survivor of a deadly crash involving a motorcycle and pick-up truck in Norfolk county.
While OPP say there are still unknowns in this investigation, riders and drivers can do more to improve safety on summer roads.
54 year old motorcyclist Kenneth Haviland of Norfolk died at the scene. As did 74 year-old Patricia Menard Williams of Woodstock. She was a passenger in the pick up truck.
An investigation is ongoing but speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in this case.
There’s still quite a bit of metal and plastic debris at the scene where the crash happened. OPP say a first wave of motorcyclists was travelling southbound through the intersection while the pickup truck was stopped at the stop sign. It then entered the intersection where it crashed into a second wave of motorcyclists coming through.
The 80 year-old man driving the pick-up was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Charges are pending.
This is the fifth motorcycle death in southern Ontario in the past couple of weeks.
OPP say the number one thing drivers can do when sharing the road with riders is check your blindspots for them often.
They say they’ve seen enough fatalities like this one already this summer.
