13-year-old Brampton girl dies of COVID-19

A 13-year-old girl from Brampton has died after contracting COVID-19, making her one of the youngest victims of the virus in the country.

According to a GoFundMe campaign, Emily Victoria Viegas passed away on April 22.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown tweeted  his condolences Sunday evening.

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie also extended her condolences on Twitter.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic Disctrict School Board confirmed yesterday the death of a student but did not release their name.

Reports say Viegas’s mother is in the ICU after contracting COVID-19 and her younger brother is in isolation with the virus.

A total of eight Canadians 19 and under have died of COVID-19. Three were in Ontario.
