Thirteen horses are dead after an overnight barn fire in Mount Forest.

The fire started around 10p.m. at a private farm, where all the horses are believed to be Arabian. The Mount Forest Fire Chief says one or maybe two horses escaped.

The man who owns the farm has been taken to hospital after trying to free the animals.

The North Wellington fire department says the fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious. It’s believed a tractor may have caught fire, causing more than half a million dollars in damage.
