Honda and Volvo take the top awards today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Volvo’s XC90 was named the North American truck utility of the year for the second time, the first coming in 2003.

And the top award for North American car went to the Honda Civic. Honda beat out the Chevrolet Malibu and the Mazda MX-5 Miata for the top prize. The Civic also won the car of the year award in 2006.

More than 55 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada voted.

The show opens to the public at the COBO Centre on Saturday.
