As Hamilton prepares to host a “friendly” match ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, history is being made off the field. For the first time, the multi-billion dollar FIFA video game franchise will feature Women’s teams. Including team Canada and England, which will be playing at Tim Hortons Field tomorrow night.

Starting on September 22, 12 Women’s soccer teams will be “In The Game” the most popular video game franchise in the world. Canada’s Christine Sinclair is one of the star players featured on the new game. Coaches say it’s about time game makers put out Female versions of their popular games.

But not all gamers feel that way. Marc Nascimento of One Up games says there’s always been a bit of a “mens only” mentality in the world of video games. “Sadly there’s a bit of a mysogonistic viewpoint of women in gaming in general – but I think this is a good opener, especially for feminism”

The Canadian Women’s soccer team is thrilled to be one of the teams featured. Soccer Canada tweeting “you heard right. can WTN in the game for @ea sports fifa16.”

The manufacturer used cutting egde technology, like 360 degree body scanning to recreate player movement and likeness so that its more realistic than ever.
