Westjet confirms a flight from Hamilton that made an emergency landing Thursday morning had mechanical issues.

Flight 585 was on its way to Calgary when it was diverted to Toronto.

WestJet says the crew declared an emergency with air traffic control and landed safely at Pearson International Airport just before 8 Thursday morning.

Passenger Mike Lovegrove told CHCH News: “We got on the plane this morning and it was all fumey and gaggin’ and we got goin’ about maybe a half-an-hour not even and the pilot came over and told us that they had engine troubles and they shut the engine off and we had to fly around for a while to lighten up the plane so we could land here.”

All 152 people onboard were ok. The plane has been grounded for maintenance.
