An emotional vigil for two victims of last night’s motorcycle crash in Mississauga. It drew a heavy police presence. Roughly 150 people gathered to remember the young man and woman who died in a collision with a car on Burnamthorpe Road.
Emotions were running high at the intersection where the crash happened last night. Several police cruisers and about a dozen officers were called in to control the crowd that gathered to remember their loved ones.
24-year old Mike Henry-Wright, who was driving, died at the scene around 8:30 and 22-year old Cassandra Tanovich, his passenger, died shortly after she was taken to the hospital. Tonight, several people brought their bikes to the vigil and rode in circles around the crowd. Candles and flowers were placed at the intersection where the crash happened. Friends of Henry-Wright say he was passionate about riding and don’t want him to be remembered by the crash.
Police are still investigating how it happened. One witness described seeing the bike speeding before the collision. A helmet was flung from one of the riders and landed by the curb.
Sadly, these deaths are two of many so far this summer. Police say Ontario is on track to reach a seven-year high for motorcycle fatalities. They’re urging both riders and drivers to take extra caution on the road.
