A St.Catharines veterinarian hospital at the centre of an animal abuse scandal was subject to a search warrant this morning. The Lincoln County Humane Society and Niagara regional police were parked outside the Skyway Animal Hospital for over 2 hours.

Doctor Mahavir Rekhi who owns and operates the Skyway Animal Hospital was suspended for 10 months after video surfaced showing the veterinarian choking and hitting animals in his care. Documents from the hospital were taken by officers, Dr. Rekhi has not been charged criminally but the investigation is ongoing.

The hospital has been closed since the videos surfaced. Dr. Rekhi could reopen his practice as early as February if he finishes additional training handed down by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.
