Unidentified body pulled from the waterway in Welland

Update: Detectives have made a positive identification of the male and next of kin have now been notified. Foul play is not suspected.

 

Niagara Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a body pulled from the water in Welland.

Niagara Regional Police, Welland Fire Department and Niagara EMS received a call yesterday around 8:30pm that a body was floating in the Welland Recreational Waterway near the Division Street Bridge.

The deceased man is described as white, 50-60 years old, between 5’7″-5’9″, weighing 150-160lbs. He has short grey hair that is balding on top with a grey/light brown goatee.

Police are also looking for anyone that may have been swimming in the area or in the park near it.

An investigation is still ongoing.
