To the Vanier Cup in Laval, the Montreal Carabins looking to defend their crown, taking on the University of British Columbia.
First quarter, UBC up 6-0 after two field goals.
Montreal QB Gabriel Cousineau gets picked off by Dylan Chapdelaine. It would lead to Thunderbirds QB Michael O’Connor hitting Marcus David in the end zone. UBC takes a 13-0 lead.
Second quarter and it’s 16-0 UBC when Cousineau finds Guillaume Paquet in the end zone who made a great catch between two defenders to cut the lead to 16-7.
Third quarter, 16-10 now and the hand off to UBC running back Brandon Deschamps who finds a hole and 44 yards later it’s a touchdown to make it 23-10.
Fourth quarter now at 23-16 but Montreal is driving and Cousineau hits Regis Cibasu for a 32-yard gain.
It leads too Cousineau completing to Samuel Nadeau-Piuze for a 6-yard touchdown and the game is tied at 23.
Then with 1:34 left, UBC is looking for the field goal but Trevor Casey can’t handle the snap and he gets sacked by Jordan Perrin and it’s a turnover on downs.
So Montreal with the ball and time left in the game, Cousineau is intercepted by A.J. Blackwell, unbelievable concentration by Blackwell who leaves his man to make the pick.
This would allow UBC to kick the Vanier Cup winning field goal with no time left on the clock. Quinn van Gylswyk with the winner as the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds defeat the Montreal Carabins 26-23 to win the Vanier Cup.
It’s the fourth Vanier Cup for the school but first since 1997.
Michael O’Connor was named MVP of the game.
