Two people have drowned in the waters of Lake Erie over the weekend. On Thursday night, a 45-year-old Niagara Falls woman died near the north shore of Lake Erie in Selkirk, ON. Police say Tracy Quinlin went underwater for about 10 mins while swimming with a friend 18-30 metres from the shoreline. Bystanders were able to do CPR before she was  airlifted to St. Michaels hospital in Toronto where she was pronounced dead. Police say alcohol may have been a factor in her death.

19-year-old Hussein Da Silva of Hamilton drowned after going out for a swim with two friends in Long Point Provincial Park. Police and paramedics were called to the park at about 4:15pm on Saturday when Da Silva went under the water and did not surface. The Coast Guard was called in along with the Hercules aircraft. Due to poor weather conditions, the search was called off a short time later. Da Silva’s body was discovered that evening about two hours later. He was pronounced dead on scene. Norfolk County OPP Cst. Ed Sanchuk says the outer bay area that Da Silva was swimming in, is known for strong currents and undertow. Poor weather is being looked at as a contributing factor in his death.
