(Updated) A 12 year old girl in St Catharines is in hospital with serious but stable head injuries after being struck and dragged by a pick-up truck.

It happened just after noon Thursday on Vine St near Scott. The girl was riding her bike when it happened — and she was wearing a helmet.

Paramedics treated her on scene before she was airlifted to McMaster Children’s Hospital.

Police say the 67-year old man driving the pickup did try to swerve to avoid the girl, but still ended up hitting her. He wasn’t injured.

The incident is still being investigated.
