An anti-union rally was held outside Toyota in Cambridge today after Canada’s largest private sector union withdrew its application to become the bargaining agent for workers there.
Unifor says it’s still working to form unions at Toyota’s plants in Woodstock and Cambridge, but wants to be sure about the numbers.
It says Toyota’s employee list of 7500 is higher than expected, and it needs to reach the 40 per cent threshold of union cards signed in order to proceed to a vote.
The Union says it will work on getting more cards signed so there’s no dispute. Some of the top concerns are said to be wages, pensions and workplace issues.
