The new 82.5 million dollar pedestrian tunnel that spans more than 150 metres, under water.

The tunnel connects Toronto’s mainland to Toronto Island’s Billy Bishop Airport.

It’s expected to bring more than 2 million passengers from downtown Toronto to the airport.

On Thursday, the big ribbon was cut to officially open the brand new pedestrian tunnel at the Billy Bishop Toronto Airport.

The 858 foot tunnel is under Lake Ontario’s western channel, 550 feet of it under water connecting Toronto’s mainland with the airport.

The trip is only 6 minutes long with the 4 moving sidewalks.

Construction began back in 2012. It was expected that the tunnel would take 25 months to finish, but it took up to 40 months, with the delays being blamed on the bad weather.

The tunnel is now in full motion, but people can still opt to take the ferry across.
