Despite today’s colder weather, hundreds of Ticat fans showed up at the team’s headquarters in downtown Hamilton. They were there to give the team an enthusiastic send off as they journey west to the club’s second-straight Grey Cup final began.
Besides the Ferguson Avenue side of the building, this was the second hottest spot during today’s Grey Cup rally.
“Really fired up, I came from Niagara for this. Oh yeah, we got 68 here, 1972, bring it home boys.”
That’s just one fan, multiply that by one hundred and you’ll get the idea of just how excited fans were to wish their beloved Ticats ‘good luck’ as they make the cross-country trip to Vancouver to take on the Calgary Stampeders at the 102nd Grey Cup. Of course there was a lot of this: “Tigers, eat-’em-raw!”
Coupled with a healthy dose of high expectations.
“We’re bringing home the cup. Oksee-wee-wee. I want them to win the Grey Cup, no- less than the Grey Cup – we’re taking the grey cup, for sure, absolutely for sure.”
This guy already has the parade route all mapped out.
“Right from here, up King, up Bay, right in front of city hall.”
And of course if you’re going to be at a fan rally, you gotta’ talk to the Ticats biggest fan, Pigskin Pete, you’re going to the Grey Cup. In one word, how are you going to explain this feeling right now? “Unbelievable. We thought they were out of it, people thought they were out of it. I never gave up and neither did these fans out here today.”
And as they walked through the gauntlet of fans, the players definitely felt that love.
“It’s pretty amazing, city of Hamilton definitely came out today and we really appreciate it – that’s the only goal, to bring the Grey Cup back to Hamilton.”
“Thank you guys for the support on this cold, icy day. We’re going to try to bring this back for you guys.”
“It’s awesome man, just shows what kind of atmosphere we got around here.”
A lot of people hoping they’re bring it back to them in the steel city. And for those who want to leave and actually go to the 102nd Grey Cup, we spoke with WestJet and they still have plenty of seats available on flights from Hamilton to Calgary where you can get a connection to B.C. And they have added three more flights from Hamilton to Vancouver.
