Ticats are hot though wins not pretty

Next to the Calgary Stampeders, The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are the hottest team in the CFL. The Ticats have won 4 of their last 5. They’re coming off their first road win of the season in Winnipeg, but even they admit, it was not pretty.

The weather matched the mood of the Ticat offence during Monday’s practice — kind of gloomy.

Quarterback Zach Collaros: “Everybody was still — not upset, but frustrated, and we had to remind each other ‘hey, we won the game’.”

The offence struggled to put points on the board and Collaros was sacked three times in the 16-11 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Zach Collaros: “Whether it’s me not throwing the right ball, there’s missed assignments all the time. We gotta’ cut back into that. The critical situations, we really gotta’ lock in and make those plays if we want to get where we want to be by the end of the season.”

One shining moment for the offence was Mossis Madu’s 22-yard rush for his first CFL touchdown. But even in retrospect, Madu couldn’t help reflect on what the Ticats were lacking: “Consistency. We’ve had weeks where we look good and others when we don’t. We’re winning, so when it comes down to it, you gotta’ win the ugly ones too.”

And it could get uglier. A nasty hit in the fourth quarter took Greg Ellingson out of the game and he did not practice on Monday either.

Head Coach Kent Austin: “I know he had an ultrasound done but don’t have any results back and don’t want to speculate. Maybe, tomorrow morning.”
