Thousands gather to remember Barry & Honey Sherman

First Published:

Family, friends and politicians were among the thousands of mourners that filled the International Centre in Mississauga today to pay their respects to philanthropists Barry and Honey Sherman.

The Apotex founder and his wife were found dead in their home last week under circumstances police have called suspicious. Their son, Jonathan Sherman spoke at the funeral, surrounded by his 3 sisters, saying coping with the speculation surrounding their parents’ deaths has compounded the pain of a crushing, surreal loss and praised his parents for their generosity and support

Prime Minster Justin Trudeau, Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory were also there to pay their respects.

The Sherman’s were among Canada’s most generous philanthropists, making numerous multi-million-dollar donations to hospitals, schools and charities. Jonathon Sherman said he and his siblings are establishing a giving foundation in order to continue their parents’ legacy.
