A St. Catharines teen’s letter about a rejected yearbook quote, has now been shared across North America. Blair Gaboury spoke exclusively to Lauran Sabourin this afternoon about how his yearbook quote about “coming out of the closet” resulted in a three day suspension from Denis Morris Catholic High School.

Friday afternoon Blair wrote a letter to Ellen Degeneres, talking about the quote controversy, and how he felt discriminated against because of his sexual orientation and that it left him in tears.

Saturday Blair posted the letter to social media, and the reaction was immediate. He was getting postings of support from across North America.
Monday morning back at Denis Morris High School, Blair was told by the principal the quote would go in the yearbook but he would be suspended for three days for breaking the school’s code of conduct.

Blair says initially he was told he’d be suspended for 20 days, he wouldn’t be able to attend his graduation. But he wouldn’t take down the letter to Ellen, and was going to take a stand.

“It’s about the message, it’s about standing up for what you believe in…and show that we are moving forward…and taking that step forward.”
