There is a famous line from the 1967 movie, “Cool Hand Luke”, where both Strother Martin and Paul Newman say “What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.” The Tiger-Cats have their own “Cool Hand Luke”, receiver Luke Tasker, who has no failure to communicate. He and quarterback Zach Collaros are on the same wavelength.
Some games are harder to get-over than others.
Ticats receiver Luke Tasker: “It’s just that one play that keeps lingering in my head from the Toronto game.”
And, Luke Tasker will use that as motivation — even though teammates say he’s already one of the most driven players on the field.
He leads the Ticats with 62 catches, 795 receiving yards and five touchdowns — stats that appear to be fueled by a “telekinetic” bond with Zach Collaros.
Quarterback Zach Collaros: “You just know that he knows what he’s doing out there, even if it’s subconscious. He’s gonna’ be in the right spots.”
Luke Tasker: “When I came out of my break, the ball was exactly where I expected it to be. Sometimes you run a route and you think, if I was a QB this is probably where I’d put it, and I turn around and it’s right there. So it happens more and more with Zach.
And as a result, Tasker has ascended to the 7th most productive receiver in the CFL.
It should be no surprise that this Cornell alum has enjoyed such success when you look back at his impressive rookie debut.
Having been coached for the previous three years by offensive coordinator, Tommy Condell, Tasker’s CFL transition was smooth.
And he continues to improve.
Tommy Condell: “He was able to now see it a little easier as his waggles coming out of the huddle, things like that. Last year he was thrown in pretty quick.”
Luke Tasker: “It’s a year later, 18-20 games later, since when I came here. Everything that’s established now has been because of the Ticats, because of the work we’ve put in here.”
