Studio Ghibli’s co-founder, Isao Takahata returns to film making after a fourteen year absence with The Tale of The Princess Kaguya. The film made its Canadian début at this year’s TIFF where the renowned animator was on hand to introduce his film.

When a humble bamboo cutter finds a magical baby in the forest, he brings the child back to his wife. the pair raise her as their own despite knowing her destiny is greater than any they could imagine for her. Determined to give her the royal upbringing she deserves, the couple leave their small village for the city despite the child’s desire to stay in the humble home she grew up in.

The Japanese folktale is brought to the big screen with breathtaking animation from one of the greatest artists of our time.

A great choice for the family, The Tale of Princess Kaguya will have a limited run at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto.
