The family of Steve Mesic, the Hamilton man killed in an altercation with police earlier this summer, took Friday the 13th to pay tribute to their loved one. Elise Copps was at the first ever Steve Mesic memorial ride.

Her fiancee’s bike has been empty since June. next month, she’ll have his baby.

Sharon Dorr: :My whole life has been turned upside down and is in complete shambles to be honest.”

Piece by piece, Sharon Dorr is putting her life back together.

“I feel like sometimes I don’t have enough time to just grieve the loss of my spouse with all this other commotion constantly going on.”

Steve Mesic was shot dead in an altercation with Hamilton Police on June 7th. He had just left a mental health program at St. Joe’s.

Friday, his friends and family honoured his memory the best way they know how.

“What a better way to capture the essence of a man, something he loved to do.”

“Loved riding motorcycles. He was an all around great guy.”

“Oh, he would have liked it. I wish he was here today.”

His best friend helped start the journey, 60 kilometres from Hamilton to Port Dover.

Norm Dorr:   “Today we’re just focusing on trying to find a little bit of light at the end of a very dark tunnel.”

Steve’s supporters are raffling off this bike; all the money that’s raised will go to a crisis relief centre that’ll help people in situations like Steve’s.

Sharon:   “We’re hoping that maybe we can potentially help somebody that is like Steve or struggling with their own issues. And maybe make a difference or a change in their life.”
