Anton Yelchin dies in freak accident

A young star who was part of the latest “Star Trek” franchise died early Sunday in a freak accident after being hit by his own car.

Anton Yelchin was best known for playing Chekov in the new “Star Trek” films.

Police say the 27-year old was leaving to meet his friends for a rehearsal, when he momentarily got out of his car. The car then rolled backward down a steep driveway and pinned Yelchin against a brick mailbox.

Yelchin had already filmed Star Trek Beyond” which comes out in July and has four other movies in post production for release this year.
