A young boy living with a rare condition that greatly limits his motor skills is defying his symptoms and stepped onto the ice for a shootaround with a local hockey team in Cambridge.

Holden Sisack is like any other 3 year old boy, tons of energy and loves sports.

What sets him apart is that he’s living with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, an extremely rare condition that only five other Canadian children have and affects his motor and cognitive skills. But those symptoms never deterred Holden’s father, Devin from keeping him active.

The pair have been skating at the Cambridge Centre Rink for over a year but before they hit the ice, Holden has a ritual. As soon as he gets to the mall he’s got to go watch the kids play hockey and he can sit there for hours.

But on a special night, Holden went from being a fan of the Cambridge Hawks to a teammate.

Thursday was the Hawks’ last practice before March Break so they had a father son skatearound and one of the dad’s noticed Holden and his father, Devin and soon after, they gave him a moment he’ll never forget.

They took the time to notice him and how he was following them and invited him out to be a part of it.

After that moment team staff and parents decided to make Holden an Honourary Member of the team.

Next Thursday they’ll give him a team jersey, hoodie and toque.
