A Smithville woman who lost part of her face to cancer receives a new prosthetic

It’s more than a new look, its a new outlook on life. Two weeks ago Ida Deslandes Guarascia received a facial prosthetic that she’d been dreaming of for years.

“This makes a big difference from the hole in my head let me tell ya, gives me a confidence that I had lost”.

After losing part of her face to cancer four years ago, the 60 year old found herself on the receiving end of taunts from strangers. After hearing Guarascia’s story, Sharon Williamson began raising money to fund an expensive prosthetic by hosting a paint night

“The whole community, Smithville and surrounding area, came out to support Ida and everyone was so happy for her”.

She also stared a “You Caring” account which helped reached their goal of $15 000.

In order to showcase the community that has supported her throughout her journey, Guaraschia’s picked three locations throughout Smithville that serve as backdrops for her photo shoot. The hair stylist, makeup artist and photographer, all donating their services..
