A St. Catharines veterinarian at the centre of a series of controversial videos showing him hitting and chocking animals in his care has remained silent, but according to his lawyer Mahavir Singh Rekhi is taking full responsibility and is embarrassed for his actions.

Skyway Animal Hospital was closed today and attempts to reach Rekhi at his home and by phone were we also unsuccessful. Rekhi was suspended for 10 months after videos showed the veterinarian abusing pets, they were recorded by former employees.

The Lincoln County Humane Society is in the early stages of a criminal investigation. Executive director Kevin Strooband says he is examining the videos and complaints made against Rekhi but says it could be weeks before charges, if any are laid. He says if owners have evidence that their pet was harmed while at Skyway they should contact the Humane Society.
