More than a dozen tearful victims stood in a Brantford court Wednesday to describe how their lives have been shattered since a hidden camera was found in a school washroom.

Brent Hachborn, a former teacher pleaded guilty to nine counts of voyeurism in March. He had been secretly recording male colleagues using the washroom for his own sexual satisfaction.

Hachborn had been promoted to vice principal and moved to another school last year, but he still stopped by his old school, James Hillier almost every day with coffee. That’s when he’d secretly switch out video recorders in a bathroom for fresh batteries and memory card. He’d take the videos home to watch alone at night.

Hachborn’s former wife Kate told court she believed she was in a committed, monogamous relationship before the shocking charges.

“I lived with this man for 12 years. I didn’t know him.” she said. “He turned out to be deceitful, dishonest, sexually deviant and only out for himself.”

She cried speaking of how her pre-school children have suffered and again as she thought of the victims, who had been her friends, along with their families. Several victims similarly spoke of the betrayal of friendship and how they swept their own homes looking for hidden cameras.

Crown Larry Brock says Hachborn should go to jail for 15-18 months for this crime, plus two years probation; defense lawyer John Renwick asked for a conditional sentence and house arrest.  A sentencing decision will be made on June 8th.
