The NewLeaf travel company is gearing up for it’s first flight out of Hamilton Monday. They say their flights will be 25% to 40% cheaper than their competitors. There’s no first class or economy, no on-flight entertainment, no free snacks and the limited menu is a-la-carte.

“Our business model relies on our ability to get the customer a seat and a seat belt. They get a chance to get from here to there for the lowest possible price.”

To fly from Hamilton to Edmonton round trip with NewLeaf would cost $440. Flying that same route with West Jet will cost you $200 more. Air Canada doesn’t fly from Hamilton, but its Toronto to Edmonton flight would cost more than double, $915. But it’s a bare bones flight. Baggage isn’t included, so a checked bag will cost $35. A carry on is more expensive than checked luggage, $40.

You can also bid on a seat in hopes of getting a cheaper flight through the website GoJumpOn.com, but you won’t know if your bid has been accepted until at least 48 hours before the flight.

NewLeaf which is partnered with Flair Airlines starts flying to 11 destinations within Canada next week. The CEO says they expect to grow rapidly and hope to have flights heading to a few select states by January.
