Question Period: Day Two

First Published:

Premier Doug Ford announced a commission today that will examine Liberal spending under Former Premier Kathleen Wynne. Ford saying the books were cooked.

The announcement followed fireworks in the legislature with Premier Ford and NDP leader Andrea Horwath sparring once again over sex-ed, Hydro One and police carding.

It was a firey morning during question period.

Ford saying he will provide any tool needed to tackle gun violence because he supports police.

With the changes to the sex-ed curriculum and the cost of the Hydro One CEO’s retirement.

It’s only day two, and question period has turned to name calling.

Following the heated exchanges, Ford had an announcement to make calling out the former Liberal government on their spending.

Ontario’s new Progressive Conservative government has appointed former Liberal British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell to lead an independent inquiry.

A public report on its findings will be released by the end of next month and Ford says no jobs will be lost.

But the NDP say it’s unlikely a thorough report could be completed by August 30th.

Ford is also taking bids from outside experts to conduct a line-by-line audit of government books.

The Premier has pledged that the inquiry would build on the work of the province’s Auditor General who has suggested the Liberal government understated its deficit by billions. The Progressive Conservatives say the total budget for the inquiry and audit will be $1,000,000 and they expect to come in under budget.
