Quebec father in Amber Alert case remains in hospital

First Published:

The Quebec man, whose son was the subject of an Amber Alert, has been arrested and remains in an Ontario Hospital.

OPP say Ugo Fredette ‘suffered injuries that required medical assessment and was sent to hospital Saturday.’

Fredette was arrested while driving a Honda CR-V on Friday night. Police used a spike belt to disable the car, and caught him after a brief chase on foot.

The owner of the Honda CR-V, Yvon Lacasse, 71, has not been since the day his vehicle was stolen.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone that may know Lacasse’s whereabouts to come forward.

Officers haven’t responded to requests for comment about what charges Fredette might face when he returns to his home province.

Fredette and his son Luka were found near Dacre, Ont., on Friday, 24 hours after the pair disappeared from Saint- Eustache, Qc.

The Amber Alert was issued on Luka shortly after the boy’s mother, Veronique Barbe, was found dead at a home.
