A provincial state of emergency remains in effect in Alberta as the wildfires in Fort McMurray continue .
The fire has already destroyed more than 1600 homes and buildings since it quickly started to spread on Tuesday, and it’s still going..

A photo taken by NASA from space yesterday, just before 6:pm, shows the smoke is so thick over Fort McMurray that you can’t see the city at all.

Alberta Health Services has issued an air quality advisory for the Fort McMurray area. Residents are advised to take appropriate precautions.

The entire city, more than 80 000 people, were ordered to evacuate more than 24 hours ago. And last night that evacuation order was extended to a number of other communities in Alberta. The regional municipality of Wood Buffalo issued the mandatory evacuation order of Anzac, Gregoire Lake Estates and Fort McMurray First Nation just before 10 last night.

Provinces across the country have reached out to Alberta offering assistance. Ontario says it’s sending 100 firefighters to help with the situation tomorrow. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will do it’s part to support the province now and when it begins to rebuild. Trudeau says Canada has mobilized a certain number of Canadian Forces aircrafts to aid in Alberta, but didn’t say how many.  He has also said that the government of Canada will match all donations made to the Red Cross.

The Red cross is on the ground in Edmonton and Lac La Biche, providing shelter, food, clothing and other basic necessities to those displaced by the fire. If you want to contribute you can text redcross to 30333 to make a $5 donation.
