St Joseph’s new facility at Hamilton’s West Fifth Campus has officially opened.

The Margaret and Charles Juravinski Centre is at the site of the former Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital. It will offer patients both mental health and addiction care as well as general medical outpatient clinics. It is also home to the region’s latest MRI machine, which could shorten wait times that currently miss provincial targets. Premier Kathleen Wynne was at Thursday’s grand opening, and called the new facility a “leader” for Ontario: “We have not in this province or anywhere understood how to integrate mental health through our families.”

Staff at the new facility say they hope it will bring more awareness to mental health issues in the community.
