The union that represents 7 000 LCBO employees says they are the best equipped retailer to sell marijuana once Ottawa lifts the ban in the near future. The Ontario Public Service union believe their members are uniquely qualified to sell weed in a controlled and safe way but some local marijuana producers believe that they should stay in their own lane.
The LCBO says they questioned 13-million people and rejected over 400 000 from buying alcohol last year. A Nanos poll conducted for the public service revealed that over 40% of Ontarians would like to see weed sold at the LCBO.
Warren Bravo is the CEO of Green Relief and spent years getting licensed so that he could grow medical marijuana at his facility in Flamborough. He also hopes to open a store front for recreational weed. When it comes to dollars, Bravo thinks private business could make the province even more.
“Through myself, through taxation, through my profit and federal and provincial taxation, I just think they will make more money than with the LCBO when it comes to the direct market.”
The provincial government or any of the MPP’s didn’t comment on the public service’s announcement because they are still waiting for the federal government to make their ruling on marijuana and the coinciding regulations.
