Posties delivering social assistance cheques

First Published:

The lockout at Canada Post could soon be over.

Back-to-work legislation is expected to be tabled in Parliament Monday afternoon to end the labour dispute. Negotiations are still stalled and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers suggests Canada Post has been waiting for the government to intervene ever since it locked-out employees last week. Canada Post insists there is still time to reach a deal without Ottawa’s intervention.

Postal workers were locked out last Wednesday after nearly two weeks of rotating job action that the post office estimates cost it $100 million in lost revenue.

Also Monday, postal carriers began delivering social assistance cheques. Mark Platt, president of CUPW local 548 spoke to Annette Hamm about the situation.
