Cold snowy conditions put a damper on Friday the 13th in Port Dover. The streets are usually packed with people checking out all the bikes. But on this Friday, the number of cars far outweighed the number of motorcycles. Those who did brave the conditions bundled up.
It’s the sound of Friday the 13th in Port Dover. But it sure doesn’t look like it. This is what the main drag looked like in September when thousands of people flocked to the town known to all bikers. The cold wintery weather kept a lot of regulars away. But we did find a few die hard bikers that made the treck.
Tim Standash drove in from Hamilton: “I came out to see how far I could get and I got going and it was ok.”
For bikers, the name of the game is dressing for the weather. Ross Forsyth has been riding for 26 years: “Everything you’ve got in the cupboard man. I have this face mask, it’s super handy. I’ve got my jacket, my leather dicky, my leather vest.”
Charlie Pembleton is also from Hamilton: “Layers. I’ve got and that and the thermal underwear as well.”
And for those of us who may not have come dressed for the occasion, there is always someone ready to get you suited up.
Elaina Pring from On the Fringe Leather: “Insulating. Make sure you have a warm thermal shirt and a nice jacket that has an insulator inside.”
So to get both the warmth you need and look the part, it’s all about the leathers starting with a good vest says Elaina: “So you would wear this. And then you would layer. We gotta get it over the belly.”
Then comes the chaps. Now imagine having to do this every time you brought your bike out.
Add a lined leather jacket and you are one step ahead of the game. Then to finish it all off, A helmet that screams I’m ready to ride.
And to achieve this warm weather riding look it isn’t cheap. It can easily set you back a thousand bucks. But how can you put a price on this look? Ready to ride!
