OPP say they will be looking for distracted drivers on the roads this upcoming long weekend.

Forty-one deaths have been attributed to distracted driving on OPP-patrolled roads this year and police say the number of crashes caused by distracted drivers is up 20 per cent compared with this time last year.

Officers will be enforcing the new tougher penalties that took effect as of September 1st. The minimum fine for distracted driving is now 490 dollars and three demerit points.

A reminder that with Labour Day on Monday, many businesses will be closed.
