A 30-year old man was shot and killed early this morning in Hamilton. This is the city’s 13th homicide for 2013 and the third murder in the area this year.

According to Hamilton police, 2 groups of men got into a fight outside Viva La Pita, the fight then turned violent when one member pulled out a hand gun and shot 30-year old Tyler Johnson. He tried to get help from a nearby Tim Hortons but it was too late.

Police tape blocked off a portion of Caroline St from King to Main this morning investigating the murder of Tyler Johnson. Detectives were in and out of both Viva La Pita and Tim Hortons looking for answers as to who shot the 30-year old.

“It gets worse and worse every year,” says Brady Caldwell, who lives nearby.

This isn’t the first homicide on this block. In September 18-year old David Pereira was stabbed to death after leaving Hess Village.

In April, 33-year old Kadar Omar was also stabbed in his house, near Caroline and Hess streets.

The continued violence has employees and residents concerned for their safety.
