A woman facing criminal mischief charges for giving slaughter-house-bound pigs water on a hot day last year testified in her own defence today. Anita Krajnc told the court she never imagined she could be charged for what she was doing and that she was just following “the golden rule”.

Anita was joined by some 150 supporters at a Burlington courthouse. They all believe she was doing nothing wrong when she gave the pigs a drink on June 22nd 2015, something she openly says she and her group Toronto pig save do all the time. Krines testified today that she and her group have been giving pigs water for three years. She says police have been present about a dozen times and that they have never told her or anyone in her group that what they were doing was illegal.

The crown contends that Krajnc was tampering with the farmer’s property. The owner of the pigs, Eric Van Boekel, has argued that Krajnc could have introduced a contaminant to the pigs risking welfare of the food chain. Krajnc faces up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine if convicted.
