The family of the late Hamilton Nicholas Morelli is promoting a campaign to prevent bullying.
Nicholas died on March 20, 2011 at the age of 24 after a car he was repairing fell on him.
The Nicholas Morelli Memorial Fund introduced “pay it forward” to encourage kids to exchange small acts of kindness. Ancaster’s Fessenden Elementary was chosen as the pilot school. The students were given bracelets and if someone shows them kindness they are to give their bracelets away to thank them.
Angela Morelli says the campaign is an effort to reflect on her brother’s kind nature and hopes it will expand into the community.
“He was the type of person that would smile at everyone, he always had something funny to say, he just made people feel good, so I thought you know if we could do this and tribute to him that really we could make our school a better place and now we are hoping to have an even bigger impact and make our community a better place.”
Brooke is taking part: “We are supposed to bring the bracelets home and we are supposed to spread them around the whole entire community and give them to people who are saying good things and that are doing nice things.”
Angela hopes students at Fessenden Elementary will keep “paying it forward” outside of school. Look out for the bracelets around Hamilton!
