The situation is anything but normal at schools across the province as several unions continue to take strike action, including those that represent teachers, office and janitorial staff. Some parents in Halton have reached the tipping point.

Teachers aren’t filling out report cards or meeting parents. Custodians aren’t sweeping the halls as often and activities have been cancelled. This week in Halton, secretaries were directed by their union to not open the door. So instead, a door will be left unlocked. Many schools were only recently outfitted with the security feature.

The school board wants parents to know that only one front door of every school will be open, and it will be monitored by a camera. All the other doors will remain locked.

The director of education met with the protestors. He said the pressure of so many job actions is building up for parents and those who work in schools. He is not sure if kids are suffering the consequences, but he says the schools are safe.
