Sunday evening marks one year since the worst ice storm in two decades hit parts of Ontario.

Hundreds of thousands of people from Toronto through to St Catharines were left without hydro.

Countless trees buckled under the weight of the mother nature’s fury but residents weathered the storm .

Two years worth of freezing rain fell in two days, downing hydro lines.

Homes decorated to celebrate the warmth of Christmas suddenly went cold.

Ancaster and East Hamilton Mountain were the hardest hit.

The City of Hamilton estimates the ice storm cost the city over $19 million dollars.

They are in the process of applying to the province for just over $11 million dollars in compensation money.

The deadline for the application is December 31.
