UPDATE:

A 17-year-old girl has died and several others were injured after a sedan and pickup truck collided in St. Catharines.

It happened around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday on Pelham Rd. between Wessel Dr. and Seventh St. Louth.

Niagara police say a 2006 Mazda 3 was driving eastbound when the 17-year-old male driver lost control of the vehicle.

The car crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

A 17-year-old girl who was one of four passengers in the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were taken to a local hospital but then transported to an out-of-town trauma centre. The fourth passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the two passengers in the pickup truck were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
