While he was a pretty well-known director in Canada, Jean-Marc Vallee first caught Hollywood’s eye with his last feature Dallas Buyers Club and earned himself his first Oscar nomination for Best Director. Now he’s looking to continue his success with Wild, an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s 2012 memoir detailing her 1770km hike along the Pacific Coast Trail. Along with starring in the lead role, Reese Witherspoon bought the film rights for the story before it was even published and is producing through her company, Pacific Standard. The film co-stars Michiel Huisman, Gaby Hoffmann, Laura Dern, and Thomas Sadoski.

With an eye towards next year’s Oscars, Wild is set to be released on December 5 and could be one of the films premiering at TIFF later this year.
