The first full length trailer for David Fincher’s Gone Girl adaptation landed on the internet earlier this week. Dripping with Fincher’s signature style, including another score from frequent collaborators Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the trailer shows us a very defensive Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) trying to convince everybody that he had nothing to do with his wife’s (Rosamund Pike) disappearance. We also get our first looks at Neil Patrick Harris as Amy Dunne’s ex-boyfriend Desi and Tyler Perry as Nick’s lawyer Tanner Bolt.

Fincher has a knack for making compelling crime thrillers (Se7en, Zodiac), so this adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel is right in his wheelhouse. And with an Oscar-friendly release date and two previous Best Director nominations (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network), could this be the year Fincher finally takes home his first Academy Award?

Gone Girl hits theatres on October 3.
