New resident at Toronto Zoo

First Published:

The Toronto Zoo has welcomed a new baby Western lowland gorilla.

The zoo says the baby was born Thursday to 20-year-old Ngozi and that staff are monitoring both mother and baby.

The baby is the 11th of the critically endangered species to be fathered at the zoo by its 46-year-old silverback male, Charles.

The zoo says staff have not yet been able to determine the sex of the baby, as it remains close to its mother.
