Four developmentally-delayed men who lost everything in a fire yesterday are looking for a new place to live.
Officials say an electrical fire is most likely to blame for the blaze that destroyed their group Flamborough group home.
Monday contractors worked to board up the windows and doors.
The four men with developmental disabilities had each lived in the home run by Christian Horizons for a couple of years.
The organization’s VP of operations Allan Mills says the men spent the night in a Cambridge hotel with their support staff.
“They’re used to their own room and their own space and their own routines, the activities they’re involved with on a daily basis. So a change like this is a major disruption to their lives.”
Choices, another not for profit has said they’re willing to help the men find more permanent places stay in the Hamilton area.
Hamilton Fire’s Claudio Mostacci says Sunday’s blaze appears to have started in the bathroom ceiling around an exhaust vent. It’s being investigated as an electrical fire.
Mills says they’re waiting on a full report from the Ontario Fire Marshall Investigator before they’ll know whether part of the home can be rebuilt.
Christian Horizons is a provincially funded non-profit organization.
They plan to hold meetings to see what sort of donations are needed to help the men rebuild their lives.
