A new tool to help in the assessment of head trauma patients.
The Infrascanner 2000 is a handheld device being used by paramedics in the U.S. It helps detect bleeding in the brain while head injury patients are still in the field. Experts say speeding up the initial assessment is critical, because brain bleeds cause potentially life threatening secondary injuries.
The scanner has been used by the U.S. military since 2008 and is now being adopted for use by pro sports teams.
