NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has temporarily suspended a Saskatchewan MP from his duties amid allegations of harassment. Erin Weir says he doesn’t know what is being alleged against him but the new democrat says he’s confident he has not harassed anyone. All 3 parties on Parliament Hill now have ongoing investigations.
After an email was sent from a third party to NDP leader Jagmeet Singh saying Weir engaged in “harassing behaviour” towards a female party member.
“In this case we just have a concern that has been raised by one of our members the concern is serious enough for me to take action.”
Weir has been temporarily suspended from his duties while an independent investigator looks into the allegation. In a statement Weir says: “I do not know what is being alleged. I am confident that I have not harassed anyone and welcome a prompt investigation to clear my name.”
On Wednesday, Conservative leader Andrew Scheer launched an investigation into questions surrounding Rick Dykstra’s federal candidacy in 2015. The former St. Catharines MP was accused of sexual assault in 2014 but was allowed to run in the 2015 Federal election. Dykstra denied the allegations but stepped down as President of the Ontario PC party over the weekend.
The Liberals are also investigating actions by members of their caucus. Kent Hehr resigned from cabinet last week after he was accused of making inappropriate sexual remarks during his time as a member of the Alberta legislature.
