Today is National Aboriginal languages day, and Six Nations marked the day by celebrating the six indigenous languages spoken and taught in their community.

At the Six Nations polytechnic they’re trying to recover those languages and teach them to young people again. “Because we have Six Nations and several dialects of those languages it’s not always an easy task.” Rick Hill

It’s also helped them reconnect with their traditions, “all I knew was that I was Mohawk Nation Turtle Clan and then I never really knew nothing else past that.” Says Artie Martin.

One of the projects they’ve been working on is a children’s book which is the story of their creation, they’ve been working on translating it into all of the different languages like this one which is in Cayuga.
