One year ago today, 51-year old Michael Sullivan was deliberately run down while riding his bike on Barton Street. Police say the killer is still out there and his family is appealing to the public for help.
Police say Michael Sullivan was riding his bike on Barton near Lottridge Street when he had some sort of iteration with a group of people. A man in a Ford F-150 then chased Sullivan from Lottridge to a parking lot. It was here police say the driver deliberately hit Michael knocking him of the bike, killing him. He then backed up and hit him again.
Family and friends of Michael Sullivan gathered to remember the man they all loved. The man who was taken away so violently one year ago today.
Gail Sullivan is Michael’s mother: “Now, a year later, it’s really setting in, then you get angry that someone would deliberately run someone down.”
Police say Sullivan was run down after an incident that started on Lottridge St. The driver of the Ford F-150 was given incorrect information about Michael and that mistake led to his death. They believe there is a group of people who know who is responsible but are covering for the suspect. One person has already been charged after lying to investigators.
Hamilton police Detective Peter Thom: “They cannot be compelled to give an honest statement. They have to do that of their own volition and we can only bring them in and try to appeal to their sense of honesty to do the right thing. Unfortunately, this person chose not to.”
And there are others who are also choosing not to, allowing someone to get away with murder.
Teresa Mummery is Michael’s sister: “It’s been hard, he didn’t die, he was killed, when somebody is killed they don’t leave peacefully we just want justice for my brother.”
And so do Hamilton police. They now say they have a strong person of interest in this case but need others to come forward to ensure justice is done.
Detective Thom: “There were a number of people who had access to that truck at the time and those are the people it’s important to step up, come forward, and do the right thing.”
Police stress the information the driver was given, that led to this death was incorrect information.
They are asking for anyone who knows anything to call Hamilton police or Crimestoppers.
Michael’s family believes this person has anger management issues and could easily strike again if not caught.
