Construction on the McMaster Health campus is almost finished. The downtown building will bring together Hamilton Public Health services, physicians, student residents and thousands of patients in what’s being called a one of a kind campus in Canada.

When it officially opens May 15th, the McMaster Health campus will be a nerve centre of public and family health. McMaster chair of family medicine David Price says the campus will try to encompass what is going on in the community; “we’ve got researchers here, we’ve got administrators working with the public health, we’ve got our educators. We’re really trying to think about the patient out in primary health care.”

30 family medicine residents will be based out of the building but up to 200 will be learning out its 13 classrooms. 450 employees from McMaster and 110 from Hamilton public health will start moving in, in April. The $84.6 million dollar project is funded by McMaster, the province, private donors and the city. Mayor Fred Eisenberger says he hopes it inspires others to look at opportunities in downtown Hamilton.
